Pain in neck and shoulder
Neck and shoulder pain, along with lower back pain, are the most common reason, besides relaxation, why people visit my practice.
What are the causes of neck and shoulder pain?
In most cases, neck pain is often caused by poor posture. This can happen at work, from frequently sitting in the same (incorrect) position at the computer, or from sitting in an incorrect position for too long.
You can pull a neck muscle while exercising.
Neck pain can also be chronic in nature. It then arises from wear and tear of the upper discs. When the upper discs wear down, the muscles in the neck area have to work harder and tire more quickly. Finally, neck pain can also be the result of prolonged stress.
The neck pain is often accompanied by headaches and other fatigue complaints.
Shoulder complaints (trapezius syndrome, frozen shoulder)
Neck pain and shoulder pain often go together because they are closely linked, partly through the trapezius muscle. Trapezius syndrome is a condition affecting this trapezius muscle and the surrounding area. It causes pain and stiffness, whether or not it occurs during a specific movement.
Frozen shoulder, literally "frozen shoulder," involves limited movement of the shoulder joint due to inflammation of the shoulder capsule. As with trapezius syndrome, the cause is often overuse of the shoulder.
