Overstimulation and understimulation: the complaints

With overstimulation, you have too many stimuli (a stimulus is information you receive through your various senses: hearing, seeing, feeling, tasting, and smelling) to process. Your brain overloads, which can make you very sad, throw a tantrum, sleep poorly, and/or make yourself invisible. If you have difficulty processing stimuli, understimulation could also be a cause. In that case, you're not receiving enough stimuli, which doesn't mean they're not there. The stimulus signal, for example, may not be received as effectively. This also prevents you from functioning optimally.

How do you help yourself when you are overstimulated or understimulated?

If you suffer from overstimulation or understimulation, you often feel uncomfortable. Massage is a good and proven tool to help. The massage creates a relaxing feeling; the overstimulation or understimulation diminishes. It has a calming effect. And body and mind become one again, improving your health, both physically and mentally.

    An overstimulated person will experience a lot of stress and tension. By massaging the body of an overstimulated person, you break this vicious cycle. If someone is overstimulated for a long time, it can even lead to feelings of exhaustion and significant stress.

  • Massage for understimulation
    People who are understimulated are often hyperactive. A massage, physical contact, breaks this behavior, and the person becomes calm and relaxed again.
