During a massage, the muscles in the body are massaged. This way, the metabolism is stimulated and muscle tension returns to ‘normal’. And precisely the latter is what you want to achieve with people who are overexcited or underexcited. Because with overstimulation and also understimulation, muscle tension is either too high or too low. After massage, happiness hormones are released, you sleep better and accumulated stress decreases. Thanks to massages, you break the pattern your child is in. It regains its sense of well-being.
Over-stimulation and under-stimulation: the symptoms
Both overstimulation and under-stimulation are not pleasant. In both cases, you are out of balance. With overstimulation, you have too many stimuli (a stimulus is information you receive through the different senses: hearing, seeing, feeling, tasting and smelling) to process. The brain overflows, which can make you very sad, throw a tantrum, sleep worse and/or make yourself invisible. If you have trouble processing stimuli, under-stimulation can also be a cause. In this case, you do not receive enough stimuli, which does not mean that they are not there. The signal of the stimulus may not be coming in as well, for example. This, too, prevents you from functioning optimally.
